        The men and women who were Midianites were extremely evil and practiced all sorts of sexual perversions(including bestiality or zoophilia). They clearly deserved to die, but God spared them, as he spared many gentiles, giving them time to repent, which they did not. Even today, in a massively more civilized world and realm than thousands of years ago, in some countries(like USA or Thailand) for certain crimes you can be easily killed.

    As for the children, they were affected spiritually and physically by their degenerate parents, and would of been born in a nation without their natural parents, with who knows how many diseases and evil inclinations and God knew better that if they die before they are mature they could be much easily be saved.

    As far as keeping virgin girls as the uneducated muslims point saying Jews wanted to rape them, that was forbidden according to Deuteronomy 21:10-14 and there was hope for those poor virgin girls to be integrated in the Jewish society and to become a part of the kingdom of God. Muslims should stop accusing Christians of things they have no clue about, and either repent from their sins or keep drinking Muhammad's literal and spiritual piss(http://www.islamieducation.com/purity-and-cure-in-the-prophets-urine/) as Jesus pointed out in the chapter 22 of The Apocalypse.
